Welcome to FlickIt! Fridays
at Naro Cinema!
Naro Cinema is an independent movie theater located in the heart of the Ghent neighborhood in Norfolk, VA. Originally opened in 1936 as The Colley Theater, this single-screen, art-deco style theater has been operated by the current owners since 1977.
FlickIt! Fridays is our monthly movie series that combines having a great time with supporting your local community. It was created in 2016 by two of the Naro’s long-term employees, Theresa Schindler and Atlanta Daniel, as a way to encourage a younger audience to frequent the cinema. It proved extremely popular and grew into the fundraiser it is today.
Each month we partner up with one of our local non-profits to bring a beloved Cult Classic back to the big screen for a night of pure nostalgic enjoyment. In addition to our usual delicious Naro Cinema concessions, the chosen non-profit will be selling local brews with all proceeds going to support their cause. We rotate through non-profits and local sponsors each month to spread the love as much as we can. It’s a win-win!
Our spinoff series, Naro-Minded, was created in 2017 as an exclusive partnership with our next-door neighbors, Naro Expanded Video.
UPDATE: RIP Naro-Minded and Naro Expanded Video. Naro Video closed their doors in September 2019, and they will be forever missed.
We also host seasonal series throughout the year — Fright Nights, NaroKids!, Holiday Classics, 20/20 Perfect Visions, Universal Monster Matinees… — and hope that you enjoy the show!
